Haptic Fields is a series of haptic wooden vibrator sculptures by Mads Kjeldgaard.

Each sculpture contains a vibrator motor. Using custom electronics, they repurpose technology from sex toys, smartphones, and gamepads to translate audio into vibrations, a tactile language well known by anyone in our modern era through the everyday use of consumer electronics. The wooden sculptures have rough surfaces, inviting the viewer to touch and feel the sounds they transmit – sounds including field recordings of birds, beaches, and the wind, among other things.

The sculptures of Haptic Fields explore this fundamental question: How do we listen with our skin?

The sculptures will be exhibited at Notam in Oslo, Norway from April 2025.

In conjunction with the installation, a workshop will be held at the same place on the subject of haptic feedback where participants will be allowed to play with the electronics themselves.
