About This Event
A two-day workshop diving deep into the theory and practice of algorithmic composition. At the end of this workshop, participants will have a firm understanding of how to use code, math and numbers to write beautiful, living and complex music. The workshop has a theoretical part that mixes traditional music theory and geometry to create a new understanding of pitches, rhythm and harmony, and in the practical part we will harness the potential of this knowledge to write music using the programming environment SuperCollider.
What you will learn in this workshop:
- The fundamental theory of algorithmic composition: Thinking of music in terms of numbers, data and procedures.
- How to write music using code in the SuperCollider programming environment
- How to livecode music
- A deep understanding of Euclidean Rhythms and abstract rhythms more generally
- Rhythm programming in SuperCollider
- How to compose using generative, procedural and algorithmic techniques.
The target audience of the workshop include composers, musicians, sound and engineers and artists of all kinds, but no prior programming experience is necessary.
The workshop is 17-18th of July 2026 in Berlin, Germany and is organized by Hyperlinear.
