Hyperlinear: Algo-Generative Music Composition Workshop
Morphine Raum, Berlin, Germany
A two-day workshop diving deep into the theory and practice of algorithmic composition. At the end of this workshop, participants will have a firm understanding of how to use code, math and numbers to write beautiful, living and complex music. The workshop has a theoretical part that mixes traditional music theory and geometry to create a new understanding of pitches, rhythm and harmony, and in the practical part we will harness the potential of this knowledge to write music using the programming environment SuperCollider. What you will learn in this workshop:
- The fundamental theory of algorithmic composition: Thinking of music in terms of numbers, data and procedures.
- How to write music using code in the SuperCollider programming environment
- How to livecode music
- A deep understanding of Euclidean Rhythms and abstract rhythms more generally
- Rhythm programming in SuperCollider
- How to compose using generative, procedural and algorithmic techniques.
The target audience of the workshop include composers, musicians, sound and engineers and artists of all kinds, but no prior programming experience is necessary.
The workshop is 25-26th of april 2026 at Morphine Raum in Berlin, Germany and is organized by Hyperlinear.

Copenhagen Computer Music Lab: Coding music using SuperCollider.
Supertime Books, Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen Computer Music Lab is a series of events exploring the creative use of technology to compose music, explore sounds, make interactive art, and cause artistic mayhem using computers, electronics and code. In this iteration, we will gently explore the basics of Algorithmic Composition using the audio programming environment SuperCollider. We’ll use numbers, patterns and generative randomness to create pieces of music!
What you will learn:
- The fundamentals of the SuperCollider audio programming environment
- Basic generative composition techniques
- Compose music using patterns
- Live coding
This workshop is aimed at beginners of programming (in SuperCollider) and will also serve as a general introduction to SuperCollider and audio/music programming. No matter your prior skill level in electronic music and/or programming, you will leave this short workshop as a Certified Music Theory Hacker.
The workshop is led by Mads Kjeldgaard, a composer and sound artist from Denmark. He works mainly in the fields of algorithmic composition and interactive sound art, using self-authored software and hardware, generative processes, patterns, biology, and sound environments to create dazzling sonic structures.
